Loveland Lacrosse Alumni Announce Inaugural Annual Event

The Loveland High School Lacrosse Alumni Association is excited to announce their inaugural annual men’s alumni game:

Friday Nov 23, 2018  at Loveland High School’s iconic Tiger Stadium from 10am – 1pm.  Beginning in 2018, the lacrosse alumni group will hold this annual fun & family-focused event the day after Thanksgiving every year. Activities planned for the day include a FREE kids clinic, FREE family picnic and fun alumni game.

“Guys have tried over the years to hold an alumni game, but they never settled on a regular date and that really hurt attendance,” said Tanner Griffin ‘14.  Griffin was a high school All-American and the southern Ohio overall Player of the Year in 2014, and went on to a standout career at Hofstra. Griffin played professionally last spring for the Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse.   “We’ve finally got a bunch of guys from across the years that want to put together a fun annual alumni event that also gives back to the Loveland lacrosse community, and this is the best way to do it”.

10am - Activities will kick off with a FREE youth clinic at Loveland’s Tiger Stadium. The clinic will be conducted by the youth program and assisted by former Loveland coaches and alumni, many with playing or coaching experience at the high school, college or professional level. No registration necessary.

11:30 am - The FREE family picnic will kick off with food and drink for all, courtesy of the Loveland Youth Lacrosse program.

11:30 am - The alumni game will start and will utilize an alumni vs alumni format. All Loveland boys lacrosse alumni are invited to come join in. If you need to borrow gear, we’ll have extra!

Halftime during the alumni game will feature a recognition ceremony.  The lacrosse alumni will recognize members of the 2008 DII state finals team.  This is the 10th anniversary of Loveland High School’s first trip ever to a state championship game in a team sport.  “2008 was the year that put the program on the map. We went 19-5, and that appearance in the DII state finals allowed us to move to DI the next year,” said Matt Dowd ’08.  Dowd was a standout defenseman at Loveland High, and went on to earn All-American status at University of Dayton and a national pre-season player of the year award while playing for the Flyers.  “That started the program on track for a lot of the high level success you see now – DI Final Fours, Loveland guys picked as All-Americans on a regular basis now, Loveland guys moving on to play DI in college, all that stuff. It really is great to see.”

Alumni pinnies will be sold for the event.  Interested alumni can contact Matt Dowd ’08 at 513-238-1723 for more information.

Alumni present will be expected to make a voluntary donation for participating in the fun, so please be prepared!

All proceeds from the event go to support the Loveland Youth Lacrosse program.
